I heard an online degree isn't accredited. Is that true. I want to go to Liberty University...?

I'd like to get a masters of guidance counseling degree from Liberty with the focus on being a guidance counselor. Honestly, my brother is a successful lawyer, and my sister is a successful teacher. They both graduated from Liberty University. That whole tier thing is a bunch of crap as I think it's the controversy of it being affiliated with the late Jerry Falwell and Christian base that makes people not like the University. 1. Some online programs are accredited. While Liberty University itself is accredited, it's a fourth-tier (not great) school with a very religious focus. I'd recommend doing your degree elsewhere if possible.
  2. Education is more important than a diploma. But, a well known school is highly preferred in the real world. It can be a faster way to success. I have heard of stories as your brother and sister. It can be done but it is more difficult. Check the link below, it shows you the real accreditation: http://www.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/accreditation_pg2.html Make sure the school is regionally accredited or nationally accredited. And, a specialized accreditation in a specific area is always a plus. For example, AACSB is an accreditation for business schools, and they offer special accreditation for certain Accounting programs. The whole tier thing is basically a survey study. Only those who are willing to share will be counted. Its kind of one sided.
