Do you think distance learning and virtual schools will replace traditional high schools?

What do you think? What about the Florida Virtual Schools. Will that begin to replace tradtional schools? I'm a teacher now, but really, if I'm honest, am starting to see that more and more parents are going to catch on to this. Who wouldn't like the convenience of staying at home and learning online> I'm just starting to feel that teaching is a dead end job (no real future due to lack of respect and the fact that is likely (more and more) that online education will replace us.

  1. I can't seem to motivate myself unless there's a real, and good, teacher actually teaching. Do schools do that online? I haven't seen it. I've always been required to get dressed and drive to a classroom. (A waste of LOTS of time, LOTS of gas money, LOTS of land and building materials, and congestion to the roads). I hope that does happen, SOON! I want to go back for my B.S. I suppose labs and sports will still require leaving the house, as it should, although, music could still be done from home. EDIT: Oh God no, real teachers are needed, although, what if they are replaced by a computerized/automated teacher? I mean, I have a program that reads what's on my computer screen outloud, but that's not like a real teacher. I hope real teachers are never replaced because I just don't think that's possible... What if I have a question to side track the lesson? lol Anyhow, they'll always need people to write the lessons/material, but aren't those people like "beyond" teaching? Also, they'll still need coaches, someone to supervise the labs, and perhaps even guidance counselors. No?
  2. Brick and mortar schools will not be replaced./ The teacher is not outmoded. Distance learning is increasing on all educational levels and probably will continue to increase. Many students need the individual attention and the friendships and other activities that only a real school may give.
