I am interested in getting a Master's Degree from an Accredited Online University?

I am interested in obtaining a Master's Degree in Psychology from an Accredited Online University. My husband is in the Military, and each time I start at the local university, we have to move due to military issues. This causes me to start at another university in the next town wherever they send us, and the process starts all over again. Sometimes, the next university accepts some credits from the other colleges and not others, which is very frustrating. Already, I have been to 5 separate universities and counting. In light of this, now I'm considering getting an online degree from an accredited school, so that when we move again, this will not affect my studies and I won't have to start at another university. How do Employer's view online degrees? I plan to work as a licensed professional counselor, therapist or support staff at a local University. Any suggestions?

  1. An online degree from a good online university will give u real good prospects. University of Phoenix, American Inter Continental University, Kaplan University etc are very good. You will get good details about online universities here http://www.geteducated.com Hope this helps. Best of Luck!
  2. Many real universities offer some classes online. These would be OK. However, most online universities (like University of Phoenix, Full Sail, Capella, DeVry) are for profit corporations that are not selective. These schools accept nearly everyone who apply. They do not have a good reputation. Many employers will not hire their graduates. If you want to work in a university, you will need to have a degree from a more respected institution. U of P in particular has had several problems. They had to pay a $9.8MM fine because of sleazy recruiting practices. Companies like Intel have decided to stop paying for their employees to take classes there because the programs lack rigor. Graduates from these schools make about $20K less than graduates from real schools. Given that these schools are very expensive, it is not worth it. Look for another alternative. It doesn't sound like you have much left to do. Have you considered taking a year to finish & having a long distance relationship for a short period of time?
