Any recommendations for accredited online masters degrees programs?
I have a BA in English, but would like to get a Masters in one of the following:
Special Ed./Early Ed.
Social Work
Speech Pathology
I would also like to know if it matters if the school is out of state (for licensing and certification programs). Any online graduates out there that can personally recommend a school? Please be specific, I don't need more search sites. Thanks!

- I am going for my masters in education with a focus in elementary math through Marygrove in MI. They have a program called Teachscape, and it has 4 different programs for the masters. Every program takes the first 6 classes, then the last 4 are designed for your program. If you got to www.marygrove.edu and click on masters programs and teachscape, you can read more about it. For social work and speech pathology, I would guess you would not be able to do it online, since you will probably have to do some kind of clinical program showing that you can work with students or people. I just finished my first class and start my second next week. There are 10 classes, each 7 weeks long. I will be done in 1.5 years, which is not too bad. Each week, we have two papers due. The application shows how we can use what we learned. The CDR is a paper written about the discussions we have online. Each week, you need to post an answer to the question before Tuesday. Then you need to read others and respond by Thurs. The papers are due every other Sat. I really enjoy the program so far. At first it seemed like ALOT of work, which a masters should be, but I found that once I got into the routine, it wasn't as bad as I thought. My school approved the program (and it is out of state). I don't think it is a problem because I know many teachers who have gotten certs from many different states. One good thing was I did not have to take the GRE's! Good luck!
- There are no fully online Master's programs in social work that are accredited by CSWE. There are a growing number of distance education programs that have major portions of them online. These programs are limited to specific geographic areas because of the field practicum issues (though Smith College has a program that you can do where ever you live but you have to do summers at the college. For social work at this time I would go to (www.cswe.org) look up accredited MSW programs in your state and then go to their website and see what their distance programs and/or part time programs are like (you can also look at neighboring states). The three areas you are interested in are very different. You probably want to get clarity on what profession you are most interested in. DA
