Employers: Do you hire people with an online degree from an accredited university?

I am looking at Northern Arizona University (NAU.edu) and Mercy College (mercy.edu) for a Masters in English. Would you hire someone from here considering they are both nationally and regionally accredited? Be honest.

  1. No way in hell!
  2. a lot depends on that. if you are the best candidate and the company doesn't recruit from universities, yes. more companies are getting away from the stereotype ivy leaguer with perfect grades, and looking for a combination of experience, education and technical savvy. good luck.
  3. It 100% depends on your body of work and the way that you present yourself...be confident!!!!....be SUCCESSFUL!!!!
  4. umm no, just because most americans aren't very truthful, (not saying you are one of them) but, people can print off those things anywhere, or get a copy from a friend. its not the greatest source to expect something from. good luck, but don't get discouraged if they say no.
  5. When I hired programmers for a government agency I certainly did and would. In fact being a government agency I would probably get into trouble if I didn't treat accredited on-line degrees in exactly the same way. That said private enterprise companies are not bound by the same standard and certain schools like Kaplan, Phoenix and Westwood have a bad reputation and evidently some employers will not hire from them. The universities you mention however look fine. Thanks Bill
