Online or Distance Learning Physics for Scientists and Engineers Course?

Does anyone know of any online or distance learning calculus-based university level physics courses that include electricity and magnetism? I know BYU offers two distance courses using calculus and geared towards scientists and engineers: http://ce.byu.edu/is/site/courses/description.cfm?subject=88&course=PHSCS121Principles%2520of%2520Physics%25201 http://ce.byu.edu/is/site/courses/description.cfm?subject=88&course=PHSCS123Principles%2520of%2520Physics%25202 However, I need a course that is calculus based and includes electricity and magnetism. I have noticed that several distance learning programs offer "General Physics" that is geared towards non-science majors and is algebra based. I need a course that is geared towards "scientists and engineers." If anyone knows of any universities that offer such a course through a distance or online program, please tell me. Even an accredited "online university" would be fine. Thank you.

  1. Your best bet is the open university their basic course in physics is http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?C01S207 However this might not be fully calculus based. It is probably better to do their level 2 course mathematical methods which includes a section on Mechanics. http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?C01MST209 And then finally do their third level course in electromagnetism. which takes you all the way up to Maxwell's equations in the differential formulation that would equip you with a good foundation in classical physics. http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?C01SMT359 You could also do their course in quantum physics http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?C01SM358 Which is usually presented in alternate years to that of the electromagnetism course. Hope this helps Best wishes Chris Finlay
