a friend of mine got her bachelors, master, and Phd, online at Rockville University. Is this authentic?

This problem is complicated. I think this so called friend of mine believes that these degrees are real to a certain extent but also I believe that she might be aware of what a scam it is and is being deceptive. I'm not sure and it enrages me. She has set up an office with her degrees on the wall and plans on counseling because the Phd is in Psychology. It is outrageous and dangerous! How could I stop this? If you go on line to Rockville University you will see that it says that it is an accredited college but when you check out the two on line sites that accredited Rockville, they look like one in the same only with the name change (BOUA & UCOEA). I know for a fact that she did not get these degrees through legitamate studying. Only last year she had told me that she was a few credits shy of her associates. Now she has her Phd!

  1. To be an counselor in most states, she needs a license to practice. Ask her if she has her license yet. That might cause her to pause.
  2. Isn't that interesting! I had a little trouble with this question because the spelling is ROCHVILLE...with this spelling, you should have no trouble figuring out just how bogus your friends' "degrees" are! I'll list some required reading below. After completing this assignment, you won't have any additional degrees but you will have an education and not much respect for that aspiring counselor... If you are truly concerned that your friend is going to become an unqualified counselor, find out what the process for becoming a counselor is in your area and then find out if they reject degrees from Rochville. You might save a life or at the least save someone from throwing away money. Thanks for asking a truly interesting question.
  3. Rocheville University openly advertises "No studies, no attendance, no waiting, no examinations," and "Order now and get your degree in five days for as little as $199!" Their claim to be accredited is from unrecognized and/or nonexistent accrediting organizations. BOUA / UCOEA are likely just websites put up by Rocheville. You can validate that a school is legitimate at: http://www.chea.org/search/default.asp Unaccredited degrees are illegal in many states, so you can look to the state for how to procede.
