Best Distance Learning Programs from Brick and Mortar Universitites?

I'm looking into completing my BA via distance learning. Most people seem to agree that getting a degree from an online university is not ideal. What are the best, cheapest and fastest options to earn a BA via distance learning from a brick and mortar university?

  1. I would start by looking at your in-state schools and see what they offer. Perhaps you can find a program that would be suitable at cheaper in-state rates.
  2. Take a look at Open Universities Australia. "Open Universities Australia is owned by seven leading universities". "You can study courses from 15 academic providers and will earn the same qualifications as if you had studied on campus. Open Universities Australia has an open entry policy for most undergraduate study and is committed to equitable treatment of all students".
  3. The University of London has a distance learning program (the External Programme) that offers BA degrees. The degrees are not offered in every subject (most of the ones they offer are in the social sciences). But they keep the quality level high by requiring the same standards of distance students that campus based students have to meet. http://www.londonexternal.ac.uk/
  4. There are many good schools offering distance learning degrees - even Harvard, Oxford, LSE, etc. do. Perhaps the way to do it is the other way round: (1) decide on the subjects you'd like to learn (2) find out (through US News Report) which institutions are considered to be the "best" in these subjects (3) check if these institutions also offer these subjects through distance learning. In addition, it is always good to check your state universities and local colleges - as they are well known in the region and might grant you state-tuition fees, etc. See: http://homemadedegrees.blogspot.com/2007/01/distance-education-ranked.html and also: http://www.google.com/custom?domains=homemadedegrees.blogspot.com&q=best+%22distance+learning%22+&sa=Search&sitesearch=&client=pub-2977208566521185&forid=1&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&cof=GALT%3A%23008000%3BGL%3A1%3BDIV%3A%23336699%3BVLC%3A663399%3BAH%3Acenter%3BBGC%3AFFFFFF%3BLBGC%3A336699%3BALC%3A0000FF%3BLC%3A0000FF%3BT%3A000000%3BGFNT%3A0000FF%3BGIMP%3A0000FF%3BFORID%3A1&hl=en
  5. Check into your state schools and what they have to offer. The University of Oklahoma has a Bach of Liberal Arts online at a very reasonable price.
