I am studying in a distance learning course and the lecturer is not willing to help?

I am studying vb course in a distance learning course. My course tutor is an indian lady and she is very concerned about things like numbers of responses in the online forum. Whenever I ask her any questions, she would answer me why don't you post it in the forum because the reponses is quite low and things like that. I was in trouble doing the assignment and I emailed her for help. I asked her if she can tell me where the solutions are or at least which session of the chapter would help me better understand the question. She said I have to ask myself not her. When I come to ask her I found some pages that might be of help, and ask her if I am on the right track, she would say she does not know. Yesterday I am so frightened that one or two lines in my program does not turn out the right output, I tried to email her and ask her to point out the problem, she did not reply me. Do you think I should report this to the school? I think she does not know anything about vb. I was forwarn before because I post my question online. They said I try to get help from others without doing it by myself. Of course I need help but I am not asking for answers. I want them to explain but they did not help. I think the school is very crap. If she send me a warning letter, what should I do? I think this school is a really weird one and does not concern about student's need.

  1. That is ridiculous. A teacher is suppose to be willing to help the student. I would definitly report this to the school and express your concerns because you are paying for the class and the teacher should be willing to help and actually be knowledgable of the class. Definitly report this.
  2. I would be concerened too. I am also taking distance learning and I have not had this problem while attending this school. I would just keep posting in the main forum or in the chat forum and ask your classmates for their opinions or help. Someone could be having the same problem with the assignment. I find my classmates very helpful. If you do get a email from your teacher concerning the forums I would email your councelor and tell them what is going on. Hope this helps. :) Remember your teachers are there to help you and that is what she should be doing. You need to report her. Does she not have a time to call and have a phone session. We have those so surely yall do.
  3. I have studied through a distance learning course. The lecturer/tutor is definitely there to advise and guide you. However, I do not think it is up to her to tell you exactly where to find the answers to your assignment. Most distance courses work through sections of the course at one time and then the assignment relates to the section you have just studied. If you look at it this way it should help you. You can't, of course, post assignment questions on line as this is cheating. However, if you feel your lecturer is particularly unhelpful you should contact the school and ask if there is a possibility of being given a different lecturer. This is often possible, unless the school is very small or there is only one lecturer per subject. Try to stay calm, both in your approach to the assignment and in any approach you make to the school. They should take you seriously if you make a definite and positive approach to them. You can try to avoid absolute criticism of the lecturer and say that you do not feel you are connecting well. This gives the school a chance to change things without causing any difficulties with the teacher. Definitely talk to someone in the school.
  4. You should report this to the school, report it to your local Board of Education and report it to the Better Business Bureau.
  5. I am so sorry to hear that your online experience has not been a beneficial one to date. Your school should have assigned you a Student Rep. or Advisor, if so, I would suggest you starting there. Let your advisor know of your complaints, it is the only way the school can address it. It is probably just that instructor's style, but unfortunately that can be a hindrance in an online classroom setting. Please try to hang in there and hopefully after you speak with someone, it might help to make your experience better. For now, I would post everything in the online forum so that you are letting her know of your problems and concerns, it is also a way of tracking. Another plus is that another student in your group maybe able to assist you. I hope things work out. I am looking for students to share their experiences at my site: Today's Online Teachers Exchange, please log on and share your experience and solution. As a former online student I am willing to share any of my experiences and resources.
