MBA Decision?

I am currently working for an employer that is sponsoring my Masters degree in Computer Science. I will graduate next year and have been very interested in pursuing a MBA to enhance and develop my managemenet skills. I do have a dilemma. There are certain factors that I am considering. If I decide to pursue my MBA, it could be part-time or full-time. If I do it part-time, this allows me to take advantange of the tuition reimbursement from my company. This would also imply that I obtain a MBA from an online accredited institution. On the other hand, if I decide to do it full-time, I would have to leave the company and would not be eligible for tuition reimbursement and in addition not receiving income since I would not be working. What are the trade-offs in obtaining a MBA full-time vs part-time and online vs traditional path?

  1. I think that would depend on how important keeping your current job is. What your financial resources are. If you have anyone else depending on you financially. You could still work and take classes at a college at night, or your days off. You can take on-line classes. It depends on how your company reimburses you for your classes. Also, consider this, do you want to stay with company? I have an uncle who was promised a promotion if he got a certain degree and once he had it he found the position had been divided up into several and given to other people. What's their track record?
  2. well considering that you don't have a business background, you might have to have both feet in. the years you spent studying computer science, may not have adequately prepared you for business school. if you think you can handle the curriculum just fine, then online seems to be the way to go. this way you don't have to lose out on tuition reimbursement and your regular income. the only issue there is that online classes limit your resources for help with assignments and the classroom interaction that makes the material more clear and interesting as well. my advice is to go full-time. many MBA programs have classes in the evenings and on weekends for working students. see what you can work out with both work and classes, before making your decision.
  3. I had been in such dilemma, once, but thank GOD, i have aworking spouse, in a not shell, take the program, part time, and in your best interest, take the normal tradition way, because most employer thinks that online program are not accredited, more over you get more information from your mate, which i think is the essence of the program. i wish you well.
  4. It sounds like you should stick with your company and pursue a parttime MBA. http://www.daylon.com/mba/ that page has some good information.
  5. If you want to break your butt, you can get a Parttime MBA in the same time as the fulltime (around 2 years). Look at NYU/stern for an example
