Which school is good for online/distance master degree in sociology and cost about $5,000.00?

I need to do a Master degree program in sociology either online or through distance correspondence, I need an accredited school with affordable fees (not more than $5,000.00). Can somebody supply me with information on any english speaking online colleges offering master degree in social science.

  1. I am starting a master's program online and did some research before I made a final decision. I chose Capella University and was in contact with an extremely helpful enrollment director who assisted me every step of the way. It seemed to be one of the most credible and thorough schools, but unfortunately it costs a lot more than $5000.00. I am afraid that you "get what you pay for" and you might be forced to take out some loans. Good luck and congrats on furthering your education.
  2. You probably won't get a degree program for the price you are talking about. The lowest price degree through a state university might be on the order of $10-11k. Most likely a master's degree from a regular online school like Capella, Walden, or Univerity of Phoenix will run you about $24,000.
  3. First off, good luck in your MA! In looking for a school, look for the type of program that will be valuable to your future, as most Master's programs will be past $10,000, with the best being over $25,000 depending on the field and school of interest. I am taking my online MA with Boston University, but funding through federal loans and school loans through financial aid programs can help you decide. Call the office of Financial Aid, and talk to an adviser at the top 5 schools of your choice, as they might have the names of loans that best suit you outside of the normally offered loans. There are loans specifically for graduate students from main branch banks. It takes a lot of research, but in the end could save you big bucks, but your attendance at a school you can be proud of and not regret, as the other poster said, you get what you pay for. Also be careful as to making sure the online school is valid and real, as many offer degrees for under $5,000 but they are just degree mills and not real, so make sure they are real before handing over any registration or application fees. Good luck in your future!
