Which Schools for Mechanical Engineering?
I would like to obtain my Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering ( and later my Master's ), and would like to know which online universities to consider. I would also, if possible, like to minor in either Chemical Engineering or Psychology, and maybe take a course in Latin.
Thanks!

- i am a mechanical engineering major, however i did not choose my current school because they had a great nationally recognized program in my department. the school you choose should be based on what you want to get out of the experience. if you only want to get your diploma and don't want to worry about social activities or the local area at all, you can choose your school simply by looking on google and typing in "best schools for _________" there are many lists composed by different people and companies each year about the best schools for different things and different people. if, however, you want to feel like you've actually attended a school and made friends outside of your department you may want to go the route i did in choosing a school with a good department, but which is known for something else. my school's business department is great. while our engineering department is good, it's not as well known as the business school. but the social part of my school makes up for it. i have made friends with people from all across the world and have learned things about myself that i otherwise wouldn't have known. as far as the minors go. just know that it is hard to minor in anything when you are an engineering major. especially mechanical. chemical engineering majors take different courses than mechanical majors so there would be quite a jump from one to the other. and with psychology none of your courses from your minor will help you in your major. the easiest minor that i've come across is electrical if your chosen school allows it. my school only allows engineering majors to officially minor or double major in math, because of the shared classes. you should however feel free to fill any elective spaces you have with classes that help you in your major or are just interesting to you. the only thing to whatch here is that you take classes that will help your GPA. you don't need the added stress of taking "heiroglyphs III" to engineering, especially since it won't help you graduate. whether you make the decision about a minor before or after starting school, you should talk to your academic advisor as soon as possible about the choices and he or she will be able to help you more with following the university and departmental guidelines about aquiring a minor.
- Here is a list of schools that appear to have an online course. http://www.worldwidelearn.com/engineering-degree/mechanical-engineering-degree.htm Although, I'm not sure how you would be able to learn everything you need without some lab classes.
- I don't know if you'd want to use an online university for an engineering degree. Engineering typically involves a lot of hands on work and lab time. With that in mind, I recommend The Ohio State University. They have a great engineering program and offer a vast range of classes. Also, if ME isn't what you thought it'd be, OSU offers several other engineering majors that might catch your eye.
