Is anyone here in college studying psychology?

Okay I am attending University of Phoenix online and was wondering if I should get all my degrees in psychology or possibly maybe get my Master's in maybe Counseling.....Next year I get my Bachelors in Psychology, but my mom told me to not get my Master's and Ph.D. in psycholgy too.....any suggestions? Positive answers please! By the way, I want a career as a clinical psychologist! I'm doing very well in school and I have a 3.5 GPA....I go to school online so that I can stay at home with my 2 yr. old daughter.... I live in Southern California and I can get my MA online and also my Ph.D. but I have to go to Walden University online to get it since UOP doesn't offer doctorate programs. Thanks guys I really want this career so that I can better myself and beiing 20 with a baby is a little hard so I want nothing but the best for my family!

  1. get your Master`s and PH.D in Psychology I am i`m at Harvard
  2. I am getting an MA in counseling. I enjoy it very much. I plan to go into a counseling practice so this degree is right for me. Also, I don't know where you live, but you may want to check your state's licensing requirements. In Illinois, you need a license and they require certain things in order to even sit for the exam. The last time I checked, the state might not approve independent study classes. You may have to do your MA in a university rather than on line. Maybe not, depending on where you live. But I think this would be a bigger issue than which major since both are so closely related. Good luck!
  3. It really depends. I am studying psychology also. In the long run, it would probably be more beneficial to you to go for your Master's and PhD. You would make more money in the business with these honors, and it would also be easier for you to get a job or even start your own clinic. With only a bachelors degree, it is very hard to stand out, because the field is so competitive. Ultimately you need to decide what is the best for you, as going on in college will cost you much more now, but in the long run it may be better for you. Hope this helped!
  4. I have my undergrad in Psychology and am pursuing an MSW (Masters of Social Work). I'm doing this because in 2 years I can be a Clinical Social Worker and do individual, family, group, etc. therapy. A masters in Counseling will train you to be a great counselor but if you get burned out thats all you'll do. A Phd in Psych is mostly for doing assessments to be interpreted by the LCSW (licensed clinical social worker) or an LPC (licensed professional counselor) The traditional view of client centered counseling isn't done much by clinical psychologists anymore.
