Whats the difference in the different types of degrees? Masters, Bachelor's, etc?

I am wanting to start college after I graduate, and had a question about degrees. Whats the difference between Masters, and Bachelor's, etc? I am guessing Masters is something that you "Master" or study the most? I am wanting to go for several different things, and I was also wondering what is the best thing to do, is there certain classes that I should take no matter, or should I go just for what I had planned on? I am wanting to go for A+ Certification, maybe some networking, web design, graphic arts, and automotive design. Is there is a list somewhere out there telling what kind of jobs you can land with these degrees, how they pay, or a list of classes that there is availible to take? I'm not looking to get rich, just make enough money to be comfortable, and have a decent house and car, and take care of my family when I get married. I've got about 4/5 years before I get married, so while I've got time I'd like to get a good start in life. Thanks!

  1. bachelor degree is a 4 year degree masters is 2 years beyond bachelor phd is 2 years beyond masters each step is supposed to give you more experience and knowledge of subject.
  2. You have about 7 or 8 questions there, hopefully you will get answers addressing all the parts. My part is the salary - once you know the job titles you are interested in, go to salary.com and research them. You can customize the results with your zip code (pay is different in different areas) and you can look at entry level and mid career to get an idea where you would start and where you would be headed, some jobs the pay is relatively flat over the career, whereas others have a lot of growth. Also the degrees - Associates is 2 years, Bachelors is 4 years, Masters is 2 years on top of Bachelors (~6years total), PhD is 5-6 years on top of Bachelors (~9-10 years). Obviously with more time more expertise and more earnings.
  3. An Associate's degree is a 2-year degree, like from a community college. A Bachelor's degree is a 4-year degree. That's the standard degree at a university. That's usually what people have when they say they graduated from college. A Master's degree is a graduate degree. You get it after you get a Bachelor's. Technically, it should only take another year or two to get it, but some people take much longer depending on their work schedule, etc. Usually you have to write a thesis (basically, an entire book) to get this degree. A Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) is another graduate degree, it's the next level after Master's. When you get this degree, you can ask people to call you Doctor all the time. People usually don't get this until they're pretty old, but if you work on it full-time you can get it done in another few years after the Master's.
