What can I do with a masters degree in psychology? I am hoping to get a career that would require masters in psychology. However, the company I hope to work for is very picky and it is very difficult to be accepted. What kind of careers could I get with a masters in psychology, should being hired by said company not go so well? I would go for the PsyD or PhD, but I come from a pretty low income family and it'll be a miracle if I can afford to get through my masters. I'd need some serious scholarships to get through grad school.

Is getting a master degree in psychology required just a bachelor degree in psychology or certain classes? Does applying for Master degree in psychology requires classes like when we transfer classes from community college to university?. for example, say i had my bachelor degree in psychology in the University of A, then i applied for Master degree in psychology online in the University of B. will i be asked to complete more classes to satisfy classes requirements in the University of B? Or having just a bachelor degree in psychology from any university is enough to apply for Master in psychology?

Masters Degree in Psychology? I live in Chicago and would like to apply for graduate studies in clinical psychology. Its been many years since I graduated from college (over 15). I graduated from an ivy league school and the academics were quite difficult. I was only an average student (B- average). If I had gone to a community college for example, my GPA would have been much better. In the past I have avoided applying to graduate school because I didn't have a B average in college. I didn't think I would get in. But I find that I must get a higher degree in order to succeed in life these days. What can I do to get in? What are my options?

How difficult is it to find work in the mental health field after earning a masters in psychology? I'm currently in my 3rd year as an undergraduate majoring in psychology. I plan on attending graduate school after I get my BS. I hear different things from people regarding what it will be like after earning a masters degree in psych. Some say it is still quite hard finding good paying work in the mental health field, and others say that it isn't that difficult , relatively speaking. So, can you please tell me what your experience was like if you earned your masters in psych, or the experiences of people you've known that have been through it. Also, if I earn my BS in psych, what else could I be able to go into in grad school? Does it still have to be something in psychology? Lastly, if earning a masters still does nothing for employment prospects, should I consider a Phd? Please give me some detailed advice! Thanks

A Phd or a Masters? Health Psychology Emphasis? I'm going to get a Health psychology degree, but don't know whether or not to get the Masters, or the Phd. I know the Phd is heavy in research, and I don't like research, nor do I have plans to make a career out of it. I would actually like to counsel people in health related issues (hence the health psych emphasis). I know I can never be legalled called a 'psychologist' in California unless I have a Phd (and a license). But I want to work in hospitals and different health related areas to work with people. Any suggestions? REALLY HELPFUL if you've gone through this process yourself!! I'm applying to grad schools soon!
Are you a "Psychologist" (not a therapist) with just a Masters in Psychology? The other night I got into an argument with a group of people. We were discussing graduate school and how much school I have left. I said that with a psychology degree I was going to have to get my PhD in order to be a psychologist.( I hope to one day have my own office) These guys insisted that I was wrong and saying that you can be a psychologist with just a masters. I said that with a masters I could be a therapist or counselor, but not a psychologist, and that I would also earn a lot less money. They also said that with a masters I would earn more money than I would after getting my PhD. I am 99% certain that they are absolutely wrong about this but I'm wondering if anyone can verify this for me. Can you be a psychologist with just a masters, and will you actually make more money with a masters than you would with a PhD?
would like to obtain a Masters in Psychology or Counseling....online degree programs? Okay, I am in school right now for a post-secondary teachers license...so that I can become a high school guidance counselor because I'm in the state of TX and now my hubby and I want to relocate back to TN in a year or two. I absolutely do not want to teach. I just want to counsel. I want to find a online degree program for psychology or counseling. I want answers only for suggestions for online universities....I'm a new mom who can ONLY do online. I'm at an online school right now that doesn't have a psychology or counseling program, so I would have to switch schools totally....what online school would be okay for psychology or counseling?? FYI, I already have a BA in Psychology from UT Knoxville. I would prefer online university for my masters. Thanks!
Can I Switch Fields With My Psychology Master's Degree? I will be receiving a Master's Degree in Psychology soon (I also have a Psy B.A.). Despite the degree, I am strongly thinking about leaving the field. I am interested in continuing my education in a different field. However, the thought of getting another B.A. is a bit daunting. I was wondering if it'd be possible to apply for a non-Psychology Master's program without having a B.A. in that field? I'm thinking mostly about History or American Studies, but other Social Sciences are possibilities too. And if it's possible, what fields could I get into?
So confused? I need help should I get my Master's degree in Criminal justice or in Psychology? Is there a University which accepts a student to a masters program in Psychology with a 2.8 GPA? I went back to school after a 20 year hiatus and am finishing my bachelors degree in Psychology right now. I will be done next semester. My coursework has been good since I started back (3.2) and it was good for 2 years 20 years ago but there was a year of bad grades when I was young because I was not being responsible. Now my GPA is 2.8 and am looking into Masters programs in Psychology. Does anyone have experience in getting in with less than a 3.0? Thanks!
Will employers care where i get my masters in school psychology from? I am looking at a Cal State University and a professional school. Cal State is cheaper, I can get financial aide, and it is pretty well known in the area where i will be job searching. The professional school will allow me to graduate sooner and it would be easier for me to work while i attended classes but i will have to take out a big loan. I researched the professional school but i do not know how prestigious (if at all) it is for its school psychology program. I want to get a job as soon as i get my degree and pps credentials. I am worried that since i will be looking for a job in the field of education then where i get my degree may matter. Please help!!!

Is a masters degree in counseling useless? I have a bachelors degree in psychology and eventually want to be a counselor of some sort but don't want to get a Ph.D in psych. I was thinking about getting my masters degree in either psychology or social work but I work full time and the closest school that offers those programs is 2 hours away--we can't move because of my husbands job. I work at the University from which I received my bachelors degree and they have a masters in counseling program. Since I'm employed by the school I can get 50% off of my tuition, however I still don't know if it is worth it to go through 2 years and thousands of dollars to get a masters degree in counseling. Is a masters in counseling useless?
PLEASE HELP with plans of degree in Psychology/Speech Therapy? If you can help with one or the other or both, it'd be much appreciated! Should I... Continue majoring in Psychology until graduation to receive a Bachelor's = where can I work with just a Bachelor's in Psychology??... while attending graduate school for to get a Master's for Psychology AND THEN get a better job. (I know options are limited with only a 4 year degree in Psy, but I know there ARE options, what are they?) OR Change majors to speech therapy (which also interests me) and again, is there any jobs that I can work using a Bachelor's in Speech therapy while I attend graduate school to finish getting the requirements?
Advises on education and career route in psychology.? I'm currently in Secondary 3. Being very much interested in the psychology field, would taking up the 'psychology' module in Ngee Ann Poly be more beneficial or in Temasek Poly which is opening up psychology as a new module in 08/09? Also, what educational route should i take after that? Like which university should i go to. I heard that for Psychology, a master degree would be mandatory for you to get a job out there, is that true? Also, would a psychology degree grant me a job in the army, those where i can actually work in the no.3 or no.4 uniform (without going through OCS :p) instead in civilian clothes with the MINDEF? Would there be other career prospects? and if i do, what part-time job would be helpful?
What kind of career options are available for someone with B.S/ Masters degree in Psychology? I am confused. I am currently in my third year as an Applied Psychology undergraduate. Also, is it a good idea to get my Masters? If so, what are the career options as well? Thanks for your time and have a fantastic day! I live in Chicago, IL

Taking online psychology courses for degree? I am considering going to school for my bachelor's degree to become a therapist. I should preface this by saying that I do not have a college degree but have attended other post-secondary schooling (1 psychology class, word processing certificate and massage therapy school). My question is, as a person who has never attended college, would it be more advantageous to be if I attended a brick and mortar school rather than took online courses for a psychology degree? I do realize that I would need to at least have a masters degree to do anything with a psychology degree. I also realize that there are certain classes that you could 'get away' with taking as online courses. Do you think online psych classes (at least beginning classes) are fine or do you think that would look bad to a potential employer or grad school? Does anyone have any advice? I am asking for complete honesty with the responses. Thanks
