Is Distance Learning really a feasible degree option? I have looked into getting my Associates via a Distance Learning course through a local community college. I have heard that taking classes through Distance learning requires even more discipline than taking regular classes, but between my job and my child I don't believe I could swing regular classes. Somebody recommended SMU since they have distance learning program and I can attend classes on weekend in Delhi. Also, it's the only degree program. Other distance learning are PGD programs. This company is affilated with excelsior college, they give you all of your study modules for your test. I paid in $3000.00 for my course work and nursing books to the company and took two nursing concept test. One month later, I recieved a letter from excelsior stating that I was denied entrance into the program. I called Alex my advisor at distance learning and he stated that he would have the situation resolved in 3 days. Well, its been 5 months now and no word from Alex and no response from him to my many many messages and emails. I work to hard for my money to have someone take it like that. The company gaurantee a refund which is obvious a lie. I don't know what to do to get my money back, they want answer their phones or return my calls or respond to my emails. Do any of you have any suggestion on the next step I need to take to get my money back from this company. Found accredited, practical distance learning college program fits needs, costs ok, what think of them? My problem is not that good with computer, although use a lot for internet basic learning. Found an accredited college that fits my interests and needs for teaching very well. At 50 and having Ph.D. feel a little schooled out, however. However, this distance learning program has excellent, courses, NEVER thought would find in a political science administrative program. My interests and background in political science is more of an academic nature for teaching, than administrative work. Ph.D., not worth paper printed on, is in history. With health problems (several years ago had to withdraw from history adjunct teaching) a little better thought perhaps having history and political science might make more possible another chance. In health situation would not make full-time teaching possible. Any advice on taking a distance learning program for cosmetology school? It's kind of weird but I am so busy with my full time job that it would be really convenient...I just don't know how recommended it would be. I've checked the BBB and looked at reviews and the school is good. My concern is being able to find an internship after I finish it. It is basically all textbook learning, you do exams on the reading...and you watch videos of certain things. No Hands on. That is something you have to do after you finish the courses...and on your own. It is Stratford Career Institute. Anybody heard of it/taken courses there?? Any advice. I dont know if it would be worth it to take these courses or not... My biggest fear is finishing and than not being able to find somebody who would hire me for an internship on this kind of background. (distance learning) I live in Washington DC. This is due to the fees and the limtied choices available in Singapore. There is only the UniSim. Are any distance learning law schools worth it? I always wanted to go to law school, but ended up going to undergraduate business school (graduated 7 years ago). I've been fairly successful since then and make about $250k per year. If possible, I still would like to go to law school, but given my current commitments, I can't go to school full time and start my career over again. There are no law schools with night programs in my state, and it would be difficult for me to move. I know there are many law programs that offer distance learning. This would be ideal for me and I would have no problem hopping on a plane once a month or so and flying to a campus if needed. However, I know that many distance learning programs are looked down upon and I don't want to spend a lot of money for something that is perhaps a joke within the industry. My goals isn't to be an attorney (though I don't want to ever rule anything out). I would probably take the bar and continue with my current career, using the knowledge to advance in my field.

If and when the Almighty Web is practically your only option for resources for college, specifically distance/online learning, how do you go about obtaining, organizing, weeding out, studying and even highlighting resources? I've not been in a classroom setting for over a decade, and have recently enrolled in college courses online. I was always a "highlighter" in high school--having every piece of material in front of me in order to study effectively. I don't see that being possible in this setting, unless I print EVERYTHING out, and that can get quite costly. I've just read through my syllabus just to get a heads up of what I am in for, and it involves articles and journals, and APA format and essays... le sigh. I'm really rather organized, but in a case such as this, I'll have no clue where to start...
